About UsOshawa Sounds of Steel is Club Carib's very own steel band. They have been around for many years playing at our own events, as well as being called to the public for performances. The video on the right shows the steel band playing at Fort York in Toronto for their steel band showcase. They have also played at events such as the Oshawa Centre, Whitby Harbour Days, Canada Day, Relay for Life, the 2015 Pan Am Games and the City of Oshawa, as well as private events. Our most notable performances are during Fiesta Week at Club Carib's Caribbean Nights pavilion and in the parade. For information on their upcoming shows see the Upcoming Events page or also for bookings email us or contact Natalie Ashby 905-449-6835.

Oshawa Sounds of Steel Schedule
How the Oshawa Sounds of Steel was Formed
During the early spring of 1971, Carlyle Julal who had recently migrated to Canada from his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago was approached by the then president of Club Carib, George Kissoondath, with the idea of forming a Steelband. Carlyle was a former steel band tune, tutor and musical arranger in his homeland. With the help of members of Club Carib the band was formed and with hard work and regular practice this dream was realized when the "Oshawa Caribs" performed to the delight of many who watched the Annual Fiesta Parade. The band went on to other performances which included schools, shopping malls, church rallies with a formal recital at the Oshawa Library. In 1996 the concept of another steel band for Club Carib re-emerged and the Oshawa Sounds of Steel was formed after an application for a grant to the Ministry of Citizenship & Culture. The grant was approved and provincial funding was received. Over the years the Oshawa Sounds of Steel has undergone a number of changes with many musical directors.
